Mitsumine Hinata is the protagonist of COCORO. He is a high-school boy who grew up in Tsukumo City, the former utopia later decimated by the Calamity. Official English copy is specific about the childhood that still sits on him. Trauma from losing his mother left him temporarily unable to speak. He often sought refuge at the botanical garden. There he met a mysterious girl, fell in love with her, and — on the day he left — proposed.

His father was mayor of Tsukumo at the time. That relationship has always been strained. After the Calamity he was taken in by his aunt, Kizuki Kirika. He seems mature and composed beyond his years, with a world-weariness the profile traces to those early experiences. When he visits her during summer break, he is reunited with his first love: the girl who still looks after the abandoned botanical garden. That girl is Cocoro.

He is unvoiced. Frontwing lists full voice acting for everyone except the male protagonist. You will read Hinata more than you will hear him. That is a design choice, not a missing credit.

Coming home to Tsukumo

The plot beat that starts the novel is simple enough to print. Hinata uses summer break to see Kirika in the hometown that the Calamity collapsed. Rumors say a ghost is tending flowers in the shut botanical garden. He goes to look. He finds a humanoid who wants to become human and who does not recognize the boy in front of her. His credited header line is “How would you like ‘Cocoro’ as a name?”

Tsukumo is not empty. Ryuzaki Kazane grew up in the same neighborhood and stayed to help people who lost homes. Amai Daichi grew up with them too, and he does not want Hinata back. Amai Kosame still looks up to Kazane and is warmer toward Hinata than her brother is. Murakumo Kotaro notices him because a nephew is a way to stand nearer to Chief Kizuki. Hinata is the visitor; they are the town.

Family, the mayor, and the aunt who raised him

Public bios do not give the father’s personal name. They do say he was mayor, that the relationship with Hinata never worked well, and that after the Calamity “various things happened” before Kirika took the boy in. Daichi’s profile adds the political bruise from the other side of the street: an accident during the Calamity disabled Kosame, and Daichi blames both Hinata and the former mayor.

Kirika is not only the relative who raised him. She is a robotics researcher now in Tsukumo as chief of the Special Disaster Investigation Team. Society treats robot scientists as dangerous. First love, and a reunion that is not mutual

The official synopsis is already a love story in miniature. Childhood Hinata was saved by a girl in the garden, fell in love, and proposed when he had to leave. Summer Hinata finds a humanoid who talks about a fiancé and about flowers that have not bloomed yet. She does not know him. The novel’s marketing line is the gap between those two facts: a boy with nowhere to call home, and a humanoid girl who dreams of marriage.

This page will not confirm or deny how that gap closes. Endings notes exist for readers who already finished and want a spoiler-aware checklist. Because Hinata has no voice actor, auto-play still leaves you reading his side in text. Japanese audio will fill Cocoro, Kazane, Daichi, Kosame, Kirika, and Kotaro. English players get the same voices under translated lines. That split is worth knowing before you judge “quiet protagonist” as a bug.
