COCORO System Requirements
Official Windows 11 minimums and recommended specs, plus storage, audio, and input.
COCORO is a 1920x1080 visual novel, not a GPU showcase. Frontwing’s Steam page (app 4650950) and the official site agree on a Windows 11 baseline, integrated graphics, and a 5 GB install. If your PC can run a browser and a video player, you are probably over the line. The useful questions are OS version, disk space, and whether you would rather read on a desktop, a laptop, or a Steam Deck.
This page copies the published minimum and recommended tables, then translates them into purchase and install advice. It does not invent extra GPU models or hidden RAM tricks. For first-hour setup after the download finishes, use getting started. For skip, auto, volume, and language, use controls. Length is a playtime topic. Storefronts and the official site are listed under links.
The game launched on 27 August 2026 in Japan (26 August on some Steam regions), with a free demo a week earlier. Specs for the full game and the demo share the same Windows 11 family; treat the 5 GB figure as the full install budget, not a promise that the demo is that large.
Minimum specifications
Steam lists these as the floor. Official copy also asks for a 16:9 display at 1920x1080 or higher, a mouse, keyboard, or touch device, and an internet connection for the download. If you see graphical glitches, update GPU drivers before you blame the novel.
| Item | Minimum |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i3 5000 series or later / AMD Ryzen series |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Intel HD Graphics, 1920x1080 |
| DirectX | Version 9.0c |
| Storage | 5 GB available space |
| Sound | PCM playback through DirectSound |
| Other | Windows Media Player 9 equivalent or higher |
Read that table as a visual novel engine profile, not as a 3D game profile. DirectX 9.0c and a Windows Media Player 9 equivalent are typical of PC novels that decode video and audio through older Windows APIs. Intel HD at 1080p is enough to composite backgrounds, sprites, and text. Four gigabytes of RAM is the floor; if your laptop is already swapping with a browser and Discord open, close those first.
The CPU line is broad: any Intel Core i3 from the 5000 series onward, or any AMD Ryzen. That includes plenty of 2015-era desktop chips and almost every Ryzen laptop still in circulation. The hard filter is Windows 11. Windows 10 is not listed. If your machine cannot take 11, this is not the storefront SKU for you.
Recommended specifications
Recommended does not mean you need a new graphics card. It means a slightly newer CPU generation and more RAM so the OS, Steam, and the novel can sit together without paging.
| Item | Recommended |
|---|---|
| OS | Windows 11 |
| Processor | Intel Core i3 8000 series or later / AMD Ryzen 2000 series or later |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Intel HD Graphics, 1920x1080 |
| DirectX | Version 9.0c |
| Storage | 5 GB available space |
| Sound | PCM playback through DirectSound |
| Other | Windows Media Player 9 equivalent or higher |
Graphics, DirectX, storage, and audio do not change between the two columns. The bump is CPU (i3 8000 / Ryzen 2000) and RAM (8 GB). If you already meet recommended, you will not get a prettier Cocoro sprite by buying a discrete GPU. Spend the money on headphones if you care about Fuminori Matsumoto’s score and Hina Youmiya’s performance.
Storage, audio, and input
Five gigabytes is the published disk budget on both tiers. Leave a little extra so Steam can patch. Stereo sound and custom volume controls are listed features; the engine still wants DirectSound PCM and a WMP9-class decoder for movie scenes. If voices or the opening movie are silent, check Windows audio endpoints and those legacy components before you reinstall.
Input is mouse, keyboard, or touch. That is why a Deck or a Windows tablet can drive the same build that a desktop mouse uses. There is no controller-only mode you must unlock. There is no multiplayer, no always-on anti-cheat, and no live-service launcher beyond Steam itself. After the download, you can read offline; the internet line in the spec sheet is for getting the files.
Steam Cloud, Family Sharing, and 12 achievements are platform features, not hardware features. Cloud matters if you bounce between a PC and a Deck. Family Sharing follows Steam’s usual household rules. Achievements include chapter clears and Change Language; they do not raise the spec floor. See achievements for the trophy list and controls for the language toggle that unlocks that one.
Laptops, handhelds, and storefronts
A 1080p laptop with integrated graphics is the intended class of machine. Lower the OS scaling if text looks soft; the novel is authored around 1920x1080. Full-screen versus windowed is a comfort choice, not a performance one. If a cheap Windows 11 netbook stutters on the movie scenes, that is a codec or driver issue more often than a GPU issue.
Valve lists Steam Deck as Verified. Handheld TDP, sleep, and battery are covered on the Steam Deck page, not here. The same 5 GB install applies. Cloud is the sane way to keep a save aligned with a desktop.
Steam is not the only PC store. DLsite and DMM also sell COCORO. Spec tables above are the Steam/official set; other storefronts may wrap the build in their own downloaders. Confirm disk space on the client you actually use. Price at launch was $24.90 with 20 percent off through 7 September 2026; live tags belong on links and the launch recap.
If you only wanted to know whether a five-year-old Windows 11 laptop can run a Frontwing novel, the answer is yes, as long as you have 5 GB free and working audio. Install, pick a language, and go meet the cast in Tsukumo. Other PC questions sit on the Tools Hub. Hardware is the boring part. The garden is the point.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for first-time readers of COCORO.
Can COCORO run on Windows 10?
Steam and the official site list Windows 11 only. There is no published Windows 10 SKU. If your PC cannot move to 11, look at another machine or a Steam Deck.
Do I need a dedicated graphics card?
No. Minimum and recommended both say Intel HD Graphics at 1920x1080. A visual novel at 1080p does not need a discrete GPU.
How much disk space does COCORO use?
Steam lists 5 GB available space on both min and rec. Leave a little headroom for patches. The demo is a separate, smaller download.
Is an internet connection required to play?
The spec sheet requires internet for downloading. After that, this is a single-player visual novel with Steam Cloud optional for sync, not a live-service login loop.
What input devices work?
Mouse, keyboard, or touch. That covers desktops, laptops, and the Deck. See controls for how a visual novel is meant to be read.
Where should I go after checking specs?
Install, then follow getting started. If you are still deciding, read the review instead of buying a new CPU.
